GO-Bio-Zusatzmodul (additional funding programme) to foster technology transfers : Date:

Universities or research institutions can build on technology transfers with this additional funding programme from GO-Bio if they have already successfully participated on one of the GO-Bio projects until the second funding phase.

Technology transfer means transferring scientific knowledge to the economy for economic purposes. To make this switch happen, researchers should be introduced to this topic early on and teams who want to start a business should be supported by their university or research institution.

Two benefits of GO-Bio projects

The benefits of GO-Bio projects were twofold for universities and research institutions: firstly, they gained valuable experience while supervising GO-Bio projects, which helped optimise technology transfer at the research institution. Secondly, the BMBF provided the institutions with funding of up to 350,000 euros per GO-Bio project upon request if they had successfully participated in one of the GO-Bio projects until the beginning of the second funding phase.

Creativity at universities pays off

The individual case being funded depended on the needs of the institution: support was given to activities that helped optimise technology transfer. These included the search for research approaches with good prospects for commercialisation, advanced training for students and employees or coaching of teams that wanted to start a business. In the case of business ideas that emerged from research, it was very important to support researchers when creating business concepts as well as patent and market analyses. For this purpose, it was possible to consult with mentors from industry or have analyses carried out. If a university or research institution had specific ideas of how to expand their technology transfer, it had a good chance of receiving BMBF funding. Five projects were granted funding.

Funded projects that boosted technology transfer at universities and research institutions
  • GO-Transfer – Promotion of technology transfer through the design and testing of formats and instruments to facilitate encounters and the management of relationships at Forschungszentrum Jülich
  • T-Plus – Start-up scouting and start-up coaching in the life sciences to strengthen transfer structures at Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich
  • Additional programme to promote technology transfer at Helmholtz Zentrum Munich, German Research Center for Environmental Health (GmbH)
  • EliSTA – Extended procedure for translation within the life sciences at the Technical University of Dresden
  • PEG – Reveal potential. Utilise inventions. Support start-ups – Technology transfer at the Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen
  • TU-LifeTransfer – Additional programme to increase technology transfer in the life sciences at the TU Berlin
