Award for Norden Vaccines : Date:
The "vaccination against tick bites" of the Norden Vaccines team is among the winners of the Innovation Prize of the Bioregions of Germany 2019.
At the twelfth Innovation Award Ceremony of the Bioregions in Germany, inventors with outstanding, innovative ideas were honored. Six projects made it into the final round of the innovation prize and presented their ideas at the German Biotechnology Days that took place from April 9 to 10 in Würzburg.
Three projects were awarded the Innovation Prize worth 2,000 euros each, including Norden Vaccines - a team from Braunschweig Technical University. Professor Michael Hust and his team of biotechnologists are developing a novel vaccine against tick bites. It uses an immune reaction of the human body to prevent a tick from effectively sucking blood and transmitting pathogens. In its assessment, the jury of the BioRegion working group emphasized that vaccination represents a disruptive, innovative approach to combating infectious diseases.
In 2018 Norden Vaccines received funding from the GO-Bio-Programme of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The funding will enable the team to spend two years researching the new vaccine candidate and preparing the foundation of a company.
