Project description:

Sensitive biological samples, such as stem cells, are usually shipped in a frozen state on dry ice. However, this form of transport is associated with many disadvantages: Freezing or thawing can lead to a high cell loss. Shipping is time-consuming and expensive. In the case of international transport there are sometimes difficulties in importing into countries and returns.

The COOL4CELLS concept addresses these issues. Within the scope of the project methods for the storage and transport or dispatch of cells will be (further) developed with the aim of making the storage and shipping of sensitive biological samples easier, more efficient and cheaper with low sample loss. In the exploratory phase, the technical framework conditions for the development of a transport system for cells at 4°C on water ice will be explored. Market, competitor and product requirements are to be additionally examined before a commercialisation strategy and implementation plan are drawn up.
