Project description:

Nosocomial wound infections often lead to longer hospital stays and require intensive therapeutic treatment. For a rapid recovery process, but also from a clinical and socio-economic point of view, it is therefore important to detect postoperative wound infections at an early stage and to initiate pathogen-specific therapy. If detected too late the infections lead to increased morbidity and lethality.

Prevention, efficient wound therapy and early diagnosis of wound infection are the central hallmarks of good wound and patient care. What is currently lacking is the possibility of a quick on-site analysis that verifies suspected diagnoses of a wound infection and enables monitoring of the postoperative wound. This is exactly where the MultiDetekt project comes in: The development of an innovative rapid test platform enables the simultaneous detection of the pathogen spectrum and local inflammatory markers in the wound with the MultiDetekt rapid test. In this way the treating physicians on site can, on the one hand, recognise whether a clinically relevant infection is present and, on the other hand, be provided support in making a decision regarding pathogen-specific and personalised therapy.
